Last year I wrote a bit about my interest in possibly using biochar in our vineyard (for those interested in learning more, here’s a helpful link.) After doing some research, finding some vendors, checking pricing, and perhaps more importantly, figuring out if applying it to our soil would violate our biodynamic certification (as with many things, the answer is, it depends), I eventually dropped the ball.  I don’t recall if it was the cost, the effort, or just that something else took my attention away, but we ended up not doing it.  The good thing about a vineyard is there’s almost always next year so I’m going to try to pick up the ball again.  It looks like I’ll have a couple of opportunities to learn more about biochar and I hope I’ll be able to take advantage of them.  I’ll let you know what I learn. -Bill Sweat, Proprietor
