Last week when I wrote about harvest being close, I had no idea we would be picking just a few days later. Harvest kicked off for Winderlea, Saturday September 1st, with Chardonnay from Carabella vineyard for our Sparkling wine program. We sampled the vineyard the previous Thursday thinking we had at least a week ahead of us, but half way down the row I knew the fruit was ready. Our lab tests confirmed what we were tasting and so Saturday became the first day of harvest 2018 for Winderlea. Our other two sites for Sparkling wine, Crawford Beck and Hyland still have some time to go. At least we think they do. More later. -Bill Sweat, Proprietor
