Juliard Vineyard

Juliard Vineyard is located in the heart of the Red Hills of Dundee just ¼ mile down the road from Winderlea. The original site was part orchard and part vineyard planted with Gewurtztraminer, Chardonnay, and Reisling. Julia and Gerard (Juliard) purchased the vineyard in 1987 and a year later began clearing the orchard and planting Pinot Noir.

Juliard’s south facing slopes are located at an elevation ranging from 420 to 500 feet. The location receives higher than average sunlight which allows the fruit to ripen earlier in the season. The deep-red Jory soil provides the distinct berry/cherry flavor predominant in wines from the Dundee hills.

Winderlea purchases old, own-rooted Pommard from the Juliard Vineyard and we are delighted with the familiar and classic Dundee Hills characteristics it shows. We are always intrigued by how nuanced this fruit is and how significantly it can differ from the Winderlea Vineyard and the Weber Vineyard, both less than a quarter mile away and at similar elevations. The Juliard is truly a great example of the power of terroir in the Willamette Valley.
