On April 14th Donna and I, led by Celie and Monty, walked through the vineyard to see if  bud break had begun.  Each of the thirteen vineyard blocks had clearly emerging buds and many of them have leaves beginning to separate so that you could detect their edges.  This timing is fairly typical and we have typically used April 15th as the historical average.  Things will move quickly from here and before long we will have several inches of shoot growth.  Our farming activities will accelerate now as we are fully in to the growing season.  The grey and drizzly is giving way to an explosion of color and activity and before long will be replaced by golden sunshine and warmth.  Another Oregon vintage is on its way.-Bill Sweat, Proprietor
